The Allegan County News

The Allegan County News’s roots can be traced back to late 1842, when the Allegan County Democrat began publishing by Alexander L. Ely. The paper became the Allegan Record in 1843, which merged with the Allegan Journal in 1863. The Journal again merged with the Allegan Gazette in 1897, and then with the Allegan News in 1955 becoming the Allegan News and Gazette in 1955. On Feb. 24, 1994, its title was shortened to The Allegan County News, by then-publisher Cheryl Kaechele. In October 2015, the Allegan County News and its sister papers were sold by Kaechele to Mike Wilcox.

Today, The Allegan County News carries on the legacy of its predecessors and provides news and advertising to several thousand readers in Allegan, Plainwell, Otsego, Fennville, and Martin.

A history of Allegan County’s newspapers, both past, and present, can be found here.
